Registration for the 18th Annual Satya Devi Memorial Trust Music Competition is now open.
Contestants can participate in three categories:
- Vocal
- Instrumental
- Tabla
The ad in ‘India Currents’ shows the wrong date for the Final Competition. The correct date is Saturday, May 8th, 2010 at 9:00am.
Note: The timings for all Finals events have changed. Please check the Category Timings page for details.
Within each category, the competitors are assigned to an age group: Ages 13 and younger to the Junior group, and ages 25 and younger to the Senior. In only the vocal category, competitors aged 10 and younger will be further grouped into the Pre-Junior class.
Each group has specific time restrictions. Going above (or much below) these timings will cause judgment penalties.
This competition is for Hindustani (North-Indian) classical music. There is a $15 participation fee for each contestant, collected at the Semi-Finals. For those contestants whose categories do not have a Semi-Finals, the participation fee will be collected at the Finals.
The Competition will take place at 9am on Saturday, May 8th, 2010 at The Fremont Hindu Temple (3676 Delaware Drive, Fremont, CA).

Prizes
The numbers of prizes (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) distributed in a given category depends on the number of participants in that class. If, for example, there are five musicians competing in a class, three prizes will be handed out. For fewer numbers of participants, the number of prizes will be reduced accordingly.
The grand trophy for Performer of the Year goes to the contestant whom the judges deem to have given the best overall performance for the day.
