Accompanying Rules:

  • Everyone is required to bring an accompanist or an electronic device for lehra i.e. a lehra box.

Timing:

  • Please adhere to the time limits for your specific age group in both the Semi-Final and Final contests.

Judging Criteria

  • Fidelity (20 points)
    • Discipline and precise execution of raga
    • Technical clarity
    • Capturing the spirit of the raga
  • Rhythm (20)
    • Timing of the beats and intervals
    • Timing when flipping musical/taal cycles
  • Stage Presentation (10)
    • Adherence to the time limit
    • Playfulness/creativity
    • Posture and facial expression
    • Confidence
    • Preparedness
    • Dress
  • In addition, extra emphasis is placed on:
    • Coordination of both hands
    • Bols
  • Taal Selection:
    • Returning contestants are not required to have a different taal from what they presented last year.

Vocal

  • Everyone is required to bring an accompanist or an electronic device for swar i.e. a surpeti, sruthi box, taanpura.

    • Dress
  • In addition, extra emphasize is placed on Choice of laya and Tonality/sound.

Instrumental

Accompanying Rules:

  • Everyone is required to bring an accompanist or an electronic device for taal, i.e. a taalmala
  • An accompanist or an electronic device for swar i.e. a surpeti, sruthi box, taanpura may also be used as needed by an instrument i.e. a flute.

  • Please adhere to the time limits for your specific age group in both the Semi-Final and Final contests.
